Chicago T-10 Fleet #2
Designed by acclaimed naval architects Sparkman and Stephens, the yacht will astound you with her performance and craftsmanship. The Chicago T-10 fleet is the largest one-design fleet in Chicago. There is always a need for crew and most boats are willing to teach you how. There are courses... but the best way to get started sailing is to START SAILING!

The 2024 Chicago T-10 Boat of the Year standings have been updated to reflect a change in the scoring. The Spring Opener regatta had previously included 5 races. The 5th race had been protested due to starting after the allowable start time stated in the NOR. CCYC recently updated the regatta results to reflect the 5th race being disregarded and we have updated our results to reflect that change. The buoy BOTY standings changed for 2nd and 3rd place and 8th and 9th place. The overall BOTY standings did not change. The updated data can be viewed HERE.
2024 Chicago T-10 Boat of the Year results are finalized and Blane and Cindy Boynton and their team on Minister had a clean sweep of the awards - Distance, Buoy and Overall! Congrats to everyone who raced with the T-10 fleet and thank you for another wonderful season!
Full results can be found HERE.
Reminder to all Chicago Taran 10 owners:
All competitors must present a valid and accurate measurement certificate in their own name to race in the 2024 T-10 North American Championship.
Fleet Measurer Mike Better is planning on making himself available at the Belmont Harbor crane to weigh and measure boats on Sunday June 16th and Sunday July 28th. He will also require the assistance of two or three people to accomplish the weighing in an efficient manner. Please sign up HERE if you would like to get your boat measured on one of these days or are available to assist. If you require measurement and/or weighing and cannot make one of the two dates above, please reach out to Mike directly (mbetter@gmail.com) to make alternate arrangements.
Another note: while sail measurement will be offered at the NAC, please try to have all sails that have already been delivered measured and tagged in advance of the regatta. Mike is planning on measuring sails again at the various sail lofts directly before NAC.
Thanks,
Mike Better

The Chicago T10 Fleet in coordination with the Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club held our first winter seminar yesterday. We presented on a cold day to about 25 in person attendees and another 25-30 on Zoom.
Fleet Captain Blane Boynton presented AIS for Racing Sailors, which is an overview of AIS, advice for how to equip your vessel and some thoughts on its strategic value while distance racing. You can find that presentation HERE.
We were then joined by a weather forecaster from NWS in Romeoville for talk about the weather. Zachary did a nice job overviewing the typical weather that we encounter during summer and fall racing.
Thank you to all those that attended whether in person or remotely. Also thanks to Steven Fink and Aimee Smith for their long term organization and conduct of these winter seminars.
Please join us for the next session on Feb 17th which will be about the Racing Rules of Sailing. Its an Olympic (Rule Change) year and Chief Judge Ted Jones from the 36.7 PainKiller V will join us!
Erica swept the season championship for the 5th consecutive season (2020 only had a buoy series).
Minister swept second place.

The Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association scheduled two offshore regattas for 2022. They heard the comments from owners in 2021 and are communicating clearly to incoming contestant teams that it is necessary that they come prepared with adequate personal gear and some experience (see attached slide show).
Lake Erie Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
Hosted by University of Toledo at North Cape Yacht Club
11850 Toledo Beach Rd, La Salle, MI
May 20-22, 2022
Coordinator is Craig Mueller (craigmueller6712@gmail.com)
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
Hosted at Columbia Yacht Club, Chicago, IL
September 23-25, 2022
Coordinators are Nick Zomer (nzomer@iu.edu) with Steve Karstrand (stevekarstrand@gmail.com)
The Tartan 10 Class has supported these regattas well traditionally and it is hoped this will continue. The Lake Erie event was scheduled as late as it could be yet still have collegians available to participate. Both regattas seek more boats; Lake Erie more so than Lake Michigan.
I'm excited to see how these go this year.
Sincerely,
Gail M. Turluck

Sailing season is coming!
As I look out the window today, I see sun, green and I hear the lake calling, it must be time to kick-off the 2021 season. Over the next few weeks, I’ll settle into a weekly cadence of fleet updates and I’ll do my best to pick-up where Mark left off as I always enjoyed his updates and take on the weekend’s races.
Good News! We are planning for a full 2021 season and the board has met to finalize the racing schedule, its attached to this note and available on the website HERE. All the usual races are planned, and we have a very busy month of August…So apologize to your spouse or significant other in advance, hoard your PTO and prepare for some great racing.
As far as open items on the schedule we are looking for another race or two to fill in some of the lighter / longer gaps in the schedule. I have an action to reach out and see if we can’t program in something for those weekends, which are marked on the schedule.
I saw our Class Secretary Mike Platzke is hard at work and has annual dues payment updated for the 2021 season. Please take five minutes of your time to update your contact info and pay your dues through PayPal you can even follow this link if you like. Remember to pay both your National and Local Fleet Dues!
Lastly, as our winter comes to a close, I’d like to take a moment to thank Steve Fink and Aimee Smith for their efforts to facilitate our winter seminar programming, your efforts to keep us together and educated are appreciated.
Don’t Pinch,
Blane
